Deep pink in bud, opening to beautiful pink saucer-shaped flowers in April-May, followed by good Autumn colour. An outstanding deciduous azalea from Korea which needs a sheltered site especially when young. Sometimes it is lightly fragrant. Height 120-150cm in 10 years.
The name schlippenbachii is derived from Baron von Schlippenbach, a Russian officer who collected the species in 1854.
